The department of Radiotherapy & Oncology has been started in 1998 with the joining of Dr. Subhash Singh as Senior Lecturer on contract basis. Later on a post of Medical Physicist was filled up in 1999 on contract basis. The department has received a grant of Rs.2 Crores for development of Oncology Wing in GMCH, Chandigarh in year 2000. Out of this grant a Telecobalt machine has been procured and inagurated on 26sup>th December, 2003 by H.E. Justice (Retd.) OP Verma, Governor of Punjab & Administrator of UT, Chandigarh. Another machine indigenous Linear Accelerator has been handed over to GMCH.

SERVICES 

The Radiotherapy services are organized into the following functional areas :

1) OPD services-Daily basis at Phase II, Level II, B-Block 

2) Indoor Ward in A-Block at 4th floor Area 41

3) Teletherapy Complex having two machine situated in Level-I, D-Block

4) The department has adequate staff for holding cancer detection camp/survey outside GMCH premises.

RESEARCH & TRAINING

The department has been actively involved in training of undergraduate medical students. The teaching starts from the fourth year onwards of the undergraduate students.

The Department is planning to start a population-based Cancer Registry programme for the city and the two satellite towns of Mohali (Punjab) and Panchkula (Haryana) which will cover a population of over one million, a factor ideal for research.

The Department has also plans to start PG training leading to MD (Radiotherapy) in due course.

  1. Started “Home Care Service for Terminally ill Cancer Patients” at Goa Medical College in collaboration with GCCI in April 2006.

  2. Training Programme on “Pain and Palliative Care” at TMIL, Mumbai, 2003.

  3. Organized the “6th Annual National Breast Conference” at Goa Medical College, Goa in 2002.

  4. Passed the “Post Graduate Certificate Course in Hospital Administration” in 2000. From National Institute of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi.

  5. “Best Resident Award” in Senior Resident, at KGMU, Lucknow.

  6. “Past President of Vegetarian Society”, Goa, Chapter, Goa. Invited as Guest speaker and as faculty member of “Asian Vegetarian Congress” at Goa

  7. Invited as Guest Speaker on Letrazol at RCC, Trivandrum Kerala.

  8. Best paper award at the 15th UP chapter of Association of Radiation Oncologists of India 2001, Nainital, UP.

  9. Travel Grant for the 6th International conference of The Asian Clinical Oncology Society (ACOS) 2003, Seoul, South Korea.

  10. Co-author for Award for best paper at the XIX Annual Convention of the Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (UP Chapter), Allahabad, 11-12th November.
