  SERVICES

  • Teaching the 2nd Professional MBBS students MICROBIO.JPG (32234 bytes)in the various disciplines of Microbiology covering subjecy areas of  Bacteriology, Virology, Parasitology, Mycology, Immunology & Medical Entomology.

  • Providing routine diagnostic facilities in the various fields of Microbiology i.e. Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, Immunology and Virology.

  • Imparting round the clock Emergency Microbiology Laboratory services to the attached hospital of the institute.

  • Testing the patients fro Hepatitis B virus, Hepatitis C virus HIV ( AIDS virus ) infections by ELISA and rapid Plasma Region (RPR) anibody by syphilis 

  • Conducting theory and practical classes for students of BSc ( Ophthalmic Techniques), a course run by the department of Ophthalmology of the institute.

  • Imparting Rotatory   apprenticeship Training to the students of vocational courses. Till October 2003 a total 123 students have been trained in various sections of Microbiology.

  • Providing Voluntary Counselling, Testing and Sentinal Survey for HIV Patients under Voluntary Conunselling and Testing Centres (VCTC), being run  by the department. The Government of India has selected the Department fro testing center for HIV.   

DIAGNOSTIC ACTIVITIES    

The diagnostic microbiological services rendered by the department are spread  across all major branches of Medical Microbiology. The different sections include of Exudates, Body fluids, Blood, Urine and Stool culture, Immunology, Parasitology, Virology, Mycobacteriology, Mycology surveillance of Hospital Acquired infections and water Analysis for presumptive coilform count as well as Cholera. A well trained experienced and displined and technical staff from the backbone of diagnostic microbiological services of the department.         

PUBLICATIONS & RESEARCH

mocro1.jpg (50756 bytes) The Text  of Medical Mycology ( II nd edition 2002) is published from Mehta Publishers, New Delhi  by is authored by one of the faculty member of  the department. The department  publishes various research papers in national and international scientific journals. Various staff members of the department also participated in a number of regional and national conferences. Various intra and interdepartmental research projects are going on in the field of Bacteriology, Mycology, Virology and immunology of the department.

FUTURE OBJECTIVES  

Presently the department is in the process of its development. However major up gradation is being made in the field of diagnostic laboratory services and research. The significant changes being brought about are in the development od molecular biology  laboratory for the early detection of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis by PCR, anaerobic bacteriology and culture of Helicobacter pylori. Some new tests have been introduced to meet out the current diagnostic needs of attached hospital. An all round endeavor  is going on to provide newer diagnostic microbiological services for better patient care, upgraded training for the congenial environment for research.
