The department has shifted to Block-D, Level-Il on 13th August 2012 and its name is Oral Health Centre. The department has new 10 high end microprocessor controlled dental chairs of internation standard, a dental X-ray machine and OPG machine and automatic x-ray developer. 

At present the department is providing:

  1. OPD Services

  2. In Patient services with six beds.

  3. Special Clinics which  provide services in different specialites of Dentistry : Oral Surgery,   Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Pedodontics, Endodontics & Preventive Dentistry.

Oral Surgery

  • Provision of on call services to all departments, handling of all emergency cases related to maxillo-facial injuries reporting to the hospital, oral surgical procedures like exodontia, biopsies, splinting, fracture management, apicoectomy, enucleation and marsupialisation  of cysts and scar revision.  Management of white lesions and odontogenic space infections. Operation of cases with the department of Orthopaedics and ENT.

Periodontics

  • Problems related to the surrounding  tissues of the dentition including bleeding gums, halitosis, sensitivity to hot and cold,  mobile teeth, gingival hyperplasia. Osseous reconstructive surgeries (bone regeneration procedures) with the use of autograft, allograft, xenograft and synthetic bonegrafts are also done. Treatment of gingival recessions and various other mucogingival surgeries.    

Prosthodontics

  • Crown work - individual crowns. Removable partial dentures and complete dentures. The latter are provided only for poor patients. Post and core for mutilated teeth with little coronal tooth structure remaining (using prefabricated as well as custom made posts) and denture adjustments.

  • Maxillofacial rehabilitation: fabrication of maxillofacial prosthesis after tumour ablation.

Pedodontics

  • Oral health services for the pediatric patients visiting the department of dentistry - restorations, periodontal therapy, preventive procedures, interceptive orthodontics(selected cases), endodontics and oral surgical procedures. Treament is also provided for anterior tooth fractures, discoloured teeth and avulsed teeth - reimplantation.

Orthodontics

  • The services of orthodontics are provided tp patients with malaligned teeth.

Endodontics

  • Handling of Endodontic emergencies, root canal treatment for anterior and posterior teeth, bypass and retrieval of broken instruments from root canals. Management of perio-endo lesions and hemisections.

Preventive Oral Health Services

  • Provision of chairside preventive strategies for low, moderate and high risk patients. Counselling for diet and sugars, oral hygiene instructions,  awareness on appropriate use of topical fluorides and   application of pits  and fissure sealants.

Patients with Special Needs

  • Dental treatment of children of the Institute for Mentally challenged and mentally challenged adults visiting the OPD.  Treatment is also provided to the   elderly residing in the old age homes of Chandigarh.

RESEARCH & TRAINING

  • The faculty and senior residents of the department regularly attend CME's, workshops, courses, seminars, conferences to keep abreast with the latest advances in technology and research and  present scientific papers .
