  FACILITIES

  • Ventilated dissection hall with embalming room, histology labs, well-equipped , museum, lecture theatre and seminar room
       
  • Dissection hall is equipped with twelve full size dissection tables, incinerator, bone and meat cutting machine and fiber glass cadaver tanks.
  • Six refrigerated mortuary chambers.
  • The students histology laboratory has sufficient number of binocular microscopes, automatic tissue processor, knife sharpener, tissue stainer, cryostat and autoclave.Triple distillation plant is also available in the department.
  • In addition the department has LCD projector, Laptop, four slide projectors, overhead projector, embryology and neuroanatomy projection slides as teaching aids.
  • The museum displays 160 dissected specimens, 75 models, 250 charts and drawings and a catalogue of the specimens. The museum has 5 foetal skeletons, 25 disarticulated skeletons, 50 complete skulls and 44 sets of disarticulated skull bones. Several Animated/ Still CD’s for teaching/Self learning.

TRAINING

The department trains 50 MBBS students every year. In addition classes are held for B.Sc  Physiotherapy, Radiodiagnosis, Ophthalmology and Anaesthesia students.                            

This is the first department of GMCH to have started Post Graduation with the admission of 2 students to M.Sc.course in August 2000.The department admitted the first batch of Medical graduates for MD (Anatomy)Course in Feb.2001.Till date eight students have completed their MD & 6 students have obtained M.Sc (Anatomy) degree from the department. Presently 5 students are pursuing their Post Graduation.

CME PROGRAMMES, CONFERENCES & ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

  • The department.organized a CME-Symposium on ‘Teaching Neuroanatomy-A clinical persepective & 2nd Annual meet of North states chapter of ASI on 13th & 14th October, 2007.

SERVICES

·       Body donation: The department runs a programme to create awareness and sensitize people to donate their bodies voluntarily. For this purpose, the volunteers are requested to fill a consent form with the signatures of their next kith or kin to inform the department. The volunteers are issued a donor card. Till date the department has 129 consent forms for volunteers donation.

Embalming: The cadavers belonging to voluntary donors and unclaimed bodies are embalmed in the mortuary for preservation. 

·        Foetal Autopsy: Fetuses (below 26weeks of pregnancy) with congenital malformations are sent to the department for autopsy by the Gynaecology department.In relevant cases Radiological & Histological examination is done to ascertain the cause of fetal death. Before writing the final report.Proper consent from the parents is taken before the autopsy.
